14,41 TWh of natural gas withdrawn from the Inčukalns UGS this season
The unified natural gas transmission and storage operator “Conexus Baltic Grid” AS (“Conexus”) informs that Inčkalns Underground Gas Storage (UGS) natural gas withdrawal season 2024/2025 has ended, during which 14,41 TWh of active natural gas was withdrawn from the storage. The highest monthly withdrawal during the season was in February, with 3,50 TWh.
The volume of withdrawn natural gas has increased by 1.82 TWh or 14% compared to the 2023/2024 withdrawal season. This is mainly due to the availability of the Balticconnector pipeline to transport natural gas to Finland.
The largest daily volume of natural gas in the amount of 156,2 GWh was consumed on the 4th of January during the past storage withdrawal cycle.
To ensure energy security and stable natural gas reserves in the storage, Conexus continued to provide system users with physical injection of natural gas into the storage during the withdrawal cycle, thus ensuring natural gas storage for the needs of the region. A total of 3,29 TWh of natural gas was injected during the past withdrawal cycle, with the natural gas storage stock more than 8,4 TWh at the end of the withdrawal season.
The 2024/2025 natural gas withdrawal season started on 14 October 2024, with the storage facility filled to 85% of the available technical capacity of the storage cycle.
Conexus has determined the maximum amount of natural gas to be stored in Inčukalns UGS for the 2025/2026 storage cycle, which according to measurements and calculations has been set at 24.8 TWh.
