Conexus: Inčukalna UGS has sufficient reserves

On 28 December, the amount of natural gas reserves in the Inčukalns Underground Gas Storage (UGS) of JSC Conexus Baltic Grid (hereinafter - Conexus) amounted to 12 226 GWh. The volumes of natural gas supplies from Inčukalns UGS to traders and users are not limited, and therefore there are no grounds to declare a national energy crisis in the natural gas sector.

Conexus fulfils all its obligations under the regulatory enactments to ensure safe and uninterrupted use of the transmission system and storage facilities. In order to comply with the requirements of the Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No 312 "Procedure for the Supply of Energy Users and Sale of Fuel during a Declared Energy Crisis and in Case of National Emergency" (Cabinet Regulation No 312), Conexus has reserved 2 350 000 MWh of natural gas for storage at Inčukalns UGS.

Cabinet Regulation No 312 requires the single operator of the natural gas transmission and storage system to maintain two natural gas reserves at the Inčukalna UGS, namely a reserve required to supply the users to be covered during a declared energy crisis and a reserve to ensure the withdrawal capacity of the Inčukalna UGS.

Both natural gas reserves are the property of other traders and are stored in the storage facility for a certain period of time, and can only be used in the event of a declared energy crisis.
